It is Flashback Friday again and we are staying at Lake Point State Park Campground in Eufaula, Alabama. I have always loved staying here. We have been camping here for many years. It has level paved sites and paved roads. It is mostly flat so it’s not hard for me to ride my bicycle. They also have laundry facilities. The trails are kept clean and they are great for taking the dogs for a long walk. They love it here too. A lot of memories have been made at this campground.
We took a bike ride today and there were deer everywhere. They just walk through the campsites. When I was sitting on the couch the other day looking out the window and a huge buck just a walked across the road. I tried to get a picture of him but he heard the dogs barking and ran off.
The most fond memory I have of camping here is when Dustin was maybe ten or eleven years old. It was fall break and we stayed for the whole week. We had a Holiday Rambler fifth wheel camper at that time. It was just me and Dustin during the day while Darren worked. We would ride bikes and play games but mostly Dustin would fish. We would take our chairs down to the beach area so he could fish while I read his library book to him. Sometimes I wondered if he was paying attention but later that week, he wrote his book report on it. He didn’t have to go back and reread any of it, so he really was paying attention. Those are blessed times that I will always remember. Oh and I forgot to say that there are alligators in the lake so we don’t swim.
We camped here for the first time with some of our very best friends Wayne and Sam. It was one of those spur of the moment trips. We were in Walmart the night before and decided to buy tents and go camping. That was back in 1993. The reason I remember that year is because Dustin was 18 months old. That was the first time I had left him over night. He stayed with my Mom and I would drive up to the Welcome Center every few Hours to call on the pay phone to check on him. Lol. I knew that he was safe with my mom but I wasn’t used to being without him.
Even though it is only about a 20 minute drive for Darren to go to work, we are only staying here for a week this time. The bad thing about staying longer is that they don’t give a discount for paying by the month, so it gets a little expensive to stay here for a long amount of time. (We are pinching our pennies for that next long trip)
Do y’all have any fond memories of spur of the moment trips that you took back in the day? Sometimes those can be the best memories. If so, be sure to share in the comment section below. We would love to here about them.
